Wood shingle house in forest

Booth Hansen designed the Sawyer Residence, an elegant 3,000-square-foot home that is perched on the crest of a sand dune along the coast of Lake Michigan. The structure is meant to honor the prominent site and surrounding landscape, so it sits at the end of a winding private drive, through a low lying, wooded area.

The classically inspired Sawyer Residence boasts a distinctly modern, open plan including a master suite, 2 guest bedrooms, state-of-the-art kitchen, living room and a screened porch overlooking stunning views of the lake. Doors, hardware and sinks from an existing home on this property were repurposed throughout to add character and a feeling of authenticity to the interiors. The earth tones of the interiors complement the exterior palate of natural wood shingles, a zinc-steel roof and minimal ornamentation. Floor to ceiling windows maximize light and open to views of the dunes and lakefront to create a true oasis for our client.
