UIC Computer Design Research and Learning Center Receives Recognition for Craftsmanship and Innovation

We’re proud to share that the Computer Design Research and Learning Center at the University of Illinois Chicago has been recognized by the Administrative District Council 1 of Illinois for its outstanding architectural masonry. Constructed in collaboration with signatory contractor Creative Erectors, LLC, the building showcases exceptional craftsmanship, design innovation, and material precision.

With 484 custom architectural precast pieces and a total masonry value of $3.5 million, the five-story, 31,000-square-foot facility is a testament to the artistry and technical expertise of the tradespeople involved. Set alongside the Harry W. Peace Memorial Grove, the building features a striking combination of precast concrete panels—acid-etched, terracotta, and polished inlay—alongside 8,800 square feet of inset terracotta cladding, installed with meticulous care.

The center also boasts over 29,000 square feet of curtain wall, skylights, and glazed openings, all anchored by a dramatic daylight-filled atrium that serves as a central gathering space. The result is a dynamic academic environment that supports research, innovation, and learning—while enriching the architectural fabric of the UIC campus.

Booth Hansen is honored to have led the design of this ambitious project and to celebrate the exceptional execution by ADC 1 of IL members.
