As fall begins to settle in, class is back in session and Booth Hansen is continuing its practice of supporting education.
Academy of Art University – Joseph King, who heads the Booth Hansen San Francisco office, started a new role as a studio instructor at the Academy of Art University. He will be co-teaching a third year studio course: Site Conditions and Building Performance. The semester kicked-off on September 5th with a weekend-long charette led by guest lecturers Martin Felsen and Sarah Dunn of Chicago-based UrbanLab.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign – This fall, the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is sending students to live and work in Chicago. As part of the program, the students will visit 14 Chicago based professional architecture offices – one a week – with the goal of understanding the core values, ideals, and methods used by these firms. Booth Hansen and UIUC alumni George Halik and Trina Sandschafer will host the architecture students on September 18th. Trina will continue her involvement with the group, serving as a mentor for one of the students throughout the semester and attending design reviews for the studio.
Northwestern University – Since the fall of 2008, Larry Booth and Scott Cyphers – along with Mark Sexton of Krueck+Sexton Architects – have led the Architectural Engineering and Design program at Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering. This fall marks Larry and Scott’s seventh year teaching studio courses to Northwestern engineers. A newly constructed studio space in the Technological Institute awaits their new group of students when classes resume on September 23rd.
San Francisco Principal Joseph King will join other winners and juror Paulett Taggart, FAIA of the Architecture at Zero 2013 competition in presenting their respective designs to the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
