Opportunity: Roosevelt University purchased a nondescript, one-story 210,000 square foot office building in suburban Schaumburg, Illinois with the intent to convert it into a university campus oriented towards commuter students.
Solution: Organized around a series of courtyards, each of the University’s five colleges establishes their individual identity at the intersections of primary and secondary corridors with sculptural rooms and color. Formerly the building’s service entry, the dramatic new arcaded entry also serves as a place for student interaction, while a tower provides a legible marker of the institution’s identity. An 18,000 square foot student center features both dining and student services, such as a fitness room, lounge, game and multimedia room, club rooms, and student government offices.
Value: The first new university campus built in Illinois in decades, Roosevelt’s Albert A. Robin Campus has grown to become the largest university facility in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, serving almost 3,000 students.
